Seminato, bb15, Venice. Seven Acts, 2025
The table is made from cementitious binder, crushed ceramic bricks, sea shells, marble stones, glass and other recycled elements coming from different sites together with aluminum legs. The materials speak for themselves, both in their natural and processed form. The clean lines of the design aim to create a contrast between the elements. The aesthetic evokes the traditionally “Venetian Seminato”, technique developed to reuse stone offcuts. Differently the arches suggest the “Passerelle” (elevated walkways) used to facilitate the pedestrian path of tourists during high water. A provocative result which gathered conflicting events: The industrial landscape of the “Casse di Colmata” (3 artificial islands made of excavated recycled materials) can be found in the stone surfaces frailly suspended on the consequences of their own; These raised routes ensure to keep people at a safe level when tide is expected to reach flood levels.
